My pops first turned me onto photography, he used to break out the family slides and 8mm motion films when I was a kid… and I would always borrow his 35mm when we traveled.
I can’t remember my first photograph, but I do remember my first empty wave shot. I was on a trip with my brother on a small island off Brazil in 2005. I had one of those cheap plastic underwater camera bags and happened to capture a sweet photo of an empty wave in a pretty amazing setting. I’d say that shot, combined with my passion for surfing, is what ignited my stint in surf photography.
There are a lot of things I’d love to be shooting right now: Brazilian models, the Bells contest, Charlie Sheen, Coachella; but I would also like to help photograph some of the less fortunate areas of the world such as the tsunami damage in Japan or the warfare in Africa. I don’t have my radiation suit on me so lets just go with Brazilian models for now.
