You are likely familiar with some of the art by way of skate brand collaborations that have hit galleries, collections and streets in the past several years. Damien Hirst and Robert Longo are a few that quickly come to mind with Henry Leutwyler’s Ballet Skate Decks being one of my favorites.
Similarly, Along (from Brooklyn) as been making limited-edition skateboards and surfboards by hand – effectively balancing quality, beauty and sustainability, and collaborating with artists who value their perspective since 2011.
With that, on Saturday, March 1st, Along will be releasing their latest collaboration, Beastie Boards, a set of decks featuring artwork from Chidy Wayne, a Barcelona-based artist.
Both Wayne and Lopez were inspired for the concept while listening to 60s soul music and speaking about the feeling of riding the pools at Chelsea Piers or a wave in Nicaragua. What resulted is a powerful and unique five-part series of acrylic beasts on wood decks, representing the wildness and precision a rider needs when tackling concrete or waves.
The only question now is, ride them or don’t ride them?
THANK YOU ALONG
