Ok, so we all know that Garance Doré is one of the chicest and coolest bloggers on Mother Earth, but as the founder and creative director of her eponymous blog, it is no surprise that Ms. Doré has a lot on her plate. Therefore, as the saying goes, “behind every powerful woman, is a pack of strong women supporting her,” such holds true with Garance, thus bringing us to our next style-list segment featuring Garance’s Managing Editor, Neada Jane.
I first met Neada this summer at Crow’s Nest in Montauk where she was sitting with some mutual acquaintances. With a brownish tan, oak-colored hair, and a cute flowy Reformation-like floral dress on, which she paired with the perfect espadrilles, it was obvious that Neada wasn’t just your typical cool girl. And as my friends always tell me “I’m so inquisitive I could talk to a wall,” it was a no-brainer that I would soon strike up a conversation with who was soon-to-be one of the cooler girls I’ve met (and her Australian accent was just the icing on the cake!).
As we are both writers, Neada and I had a lot to talk about, but it was her creative, calm, cool, collected, and down-to-earth aura that really caught my attention. As we chatted about the world of blogging, fashion, beauty, travel, and of course Garance Doré, I couldn’t help but want to know more about this awesome and worldly Aussie who has one of the coolest jobs at one of the coolest blogs. From pitching and publishing articles to producing photo shoots and scouting new talent, Neada is a well-rounded, culturally-inspired, and fashion-driven creative mind who Garance calls “a real cool girl who doesn’t have a crazy ego, and as with everyone I decide to work with, is a very kind, very gentle, very caring person” which couldn’t be more true.
So, having recently arrived back to the city after her time in Paris for fashion week, we caught up with Neada to get a little inspiration from some of her favorite picks! Read below for full interview!
NEADA JANE | STYLE-LIST
Where did it all start?
Sydney, Australia – the best place to start anything.
What is your favorite city and neighborhood?
I’m a coast dweller at heart, and my favorite seaside towns are Lagos, Portugal and Positano, Italy. Both are incredibly beautiful; you go to Lagos for the beaches, Positano for the romance. Oh, and Bondi.
What is your favorite hotel?
I always opt for a boutique hotel with character and a view, never in the center of the tourist district.
Your favorite restaurant and dish?
In New York, risotto at I Sodi in the west village, and everything at Sushi of Gari. In Sydney, I always stop by Otto and Catalina. Great food, incredible views.
I love sunset drinks at The Crow’s Nest in Montauk. But, anywhere in the world? La Sireneuse in Positano! You’ll never forget sunset drinks there.
Favorite vacation location?
I love Paris for the city, Amalfi Coast for the scenery, but a vacation home to Sydney is unbeatable.
Favorite surf spot / board?
I’ve been learning at Ditch Plains, but loved giving it a go in Popoya, Nicaragua – and can’t wait to surf at Tamara this Christmas!
Favorite duffel or suitcase?
Samsonite. They last forever and will never break on you mid-trip.
Too many to love, but I’ll always be a huge fan of Marni, Chloé, Calvin Klein, and Chanel on the luxury side. Bassike, an Australian brand, is the best for essentials. I wear a lot of vintage, too.
Favorite jean brand?
Levi’s and 3×1. It’s a tie!
Essential wardrobe item?
Great, classic sneakers.
Favorite time of year?
Summer! I think I’m ready to give up winter all together…
Your style Icon/s?
Jane Birkin, Bianca Jagger… But I’m always inspired by people around me, rarely by the runway.
Personal style tip for others?
Know your proportions. It seems simple, but it’s not.
This great green cleaners and tailor on Kenmare St…
Bumble and bumble.
Coffee or tea?
Coffee, and lots of it. It’s my vice.
Favorite shoe maker?
Prada, Chloé, and Nike.
A vintage late 60s convertible MG or Mercedes. Cream or red, please!
Favorite watch / watch brand?
RumbaTime. I wear their all-white watch all the time. My Chanel J12 is beautiful but not always so practical, a little too precious for daily life.
Essential gadget you can’t live without?
I hate to say phone, but it’s true – and comfortable headphones. Marshall’s are my favorite.
Your favorite book?
100 Years of Solitude, In The Skin Of A Lion, Ways of Seeing.
Favorite song or album?
I’m too fickle to ever answer this! Today I was listening to Slave Ambient by The War on Drugs…
One Wave Is All It Takes. Seriously, please check them out.
Schiele and, of course, Picasso.
Thank you Neada!
